Week 9

23.

I have come to the end of this learning curve of 23 things. I have enjoyed the journey with my colleagues and had some fun along the way. I may not use alot of what I have experienced but I will take away some exciting info. My favourites were YouTube, Flickr and Image Generator. Thanks for the opportunity to participate.

Week 9

22.

Through my Bloglines I was looking for ebooks and came across Project gutenberg the first producer of free electronic books. I thought A Christmas Carol was apt at this time.

Week 9

22.

NetLibrary looked a better option than podcasts. I would certainly like to see this included in our catalogue at Yarra Plenty.

Week 9

21.

I had a look around the Yahoo podcast site and couldn't find anything that I'd listen to. I would much rather read a book, listen to a cd or watch a dvd.

Bushfires in Victorian Alps

This is a photo from friends of ours in Harrietville, Victoria (12/12/06). It was taken in her backyard in the direction of the cricket ground (for those of you who know Harrietville). German Town is on fire!

Week 8.

18.

Had a look at Zoho Writer but I think I'll stick with Microsoft Word etc. Better the devil you know than the devil you don't!

Week 7

17.

PB Wiki, or peantbutter wiki, was a little fun. A bit like creating another blog. I wanted to sign up as vegemite, but it was taken so I signed up as gday. Seeing as how it's all American, I thought I'd throw in a real Aussie greeting.

Week 7

16.

Had a look at Wiki websites and I know it's not going to be something that I'll use. There seemed to be a few pros and cons regarding this type of communication and learning. It may be easy to use and web based but you could be getting information that you'd probably have to check anyway. Why not Google it? It's also too open, as someone said "I don't want someone changing my writing" or even from Sir Tim Berner's-Lee, inventor of the World Wide Web “Even the clearest, cleverest and most comprehensive website cannot hope to equal the wealth of information contained in a good reference book. The internet is most definitely not a substitute for a well-stocked public library.” I like that.

Week 6

15.

A lot of this technology is a bit above my head but I feel that it will be a good thing for the library service to pursue. I visited the Santa Monica Library and their website was terrific. Dvd and television, movie nights, playstation games and lots of book groups and a teen website (I wonder how they cope with their teenagers and behaviours). I feel strongly about the personal feel of a library and the connection that we have with our borrowers, they enjoy it and so do we. I also feel for the elderly and the not so elderly (thinking of my mum) who quite honestly will not like any change, and yes we will ease them into it and teach them, I know all that, but........ the personal quality is just as important. I find with the information technology I've experienced over the last month has even eclipsed my teenagers. I feel I have something over them (for a change!)
Here are some quotes that caught my attention:

"can be equally disastrous when a profession fails to acknowledge and adapt to radical, fundamental change in the marketplace it serves" Rick Anderson Director of Resource Acquisition,University of Nevada, Reno Libraries

"One of the principles I would add to the Library 2.0 meme is that “the Library is human” because it makes the library a social and emotionally engaging center for learning and experience" Michael Stephens Librarian, Blogger

Thank you and good night.

Week 6

14.

Through Technorati I found this trailor for Scary Mary on You Tube.

Week 6

13.

Created another account. This time with Del.icio.us. Posted my LibraryThing site to it and I'm quite happy with the result.

Week 5

12.

Rollyo, Rollyo where for art thou Rollyo? I'm not saying any more!

Week 5

11.

Opened a LibraryThing account and listed just some of the books I have read. A very good site for people to keep track of their reading. I will probably search this site more indepth once the 23 things is over with.

YouTube

My You Tube account. I love this site. I have found some long forgotten oldies that brought back memories!

Week 5

10.

Moving right along now on to Image Generators. This was fun, a bit like flickr. Getting into the Christmas spirit I found these reindeers on myalphapictures. You can create your own high quality personal picture products with your own images and texts or their pictures. Posters, cards, calendars and messages.

Week 4

9.

A link to my bloglines account. I am moving on. Thanks to my collegues for getting me past a particularly frustrating piece. See you on the next adventure. Actually have a look at the this clip which has got to be the best thing I've seen while doing this exercise.

Week 4

8.

I have set up my Bloglines account and have been able to post feeds to this. I've played around with my Blog and was able to change my dashboard. I find the whole feeds and rss thing very confusing and I'm starting to lose faith in my ability! I'll stick it out for a bit longer then I think I'll move on!

Frame It

With several frames to choose from I decided I'd go with a timber frame to frame one of my favorite trees the Japanese Maple. A brilliant looking tree with amazing color and shape.

Fd Toys

One of the tools in flickr is making a billboard. I picked Time Square New York to paste a photo of our Footy Tips Night. We have this night before the AFL finals every year and have a wonderful trophy presentation. It's a high priority on our social calendar.

Back to Flickr!

I've gone back to play around with Flickr, this site is very addictive. I have also created a photo album which is very exciting. Instead of sending emails and attatchments of my photos I can post them on my site and with my ID and password people can view my photos and comment on them.

Week 3

7.

I know how the kids feel when they get on the computer to play games. I had so much fun on a site called sitepal, mucking around with the characters and putting words in their mouths. Dressing them up was a scream.

Thursday, November 02, 2006

Wow! How about my new magazine?! Called "Azelia", this is also from my garden.
This photo is of the corner of my garden. I look at from my family room and enjoy the sight. I've finally been able to post a photo and was relieved more that anything.

Tuesday, October 24, 2006

OK so I don't think I've too bad I'm up to Week 3 and Thing 5. Next stop posting a photo.
